Your appointment at Relâche Spa follows a simple arc: arrive early, change into a robe, meet your therapist for a short intake, receive your treatment in a quiet room, and rest afterward with water and a warm towel. Plan for your service time plus about 45 minutes of unhurried lounging.

When should we arrive, and what happens first?

Come 30 to 45 minutes before your service. That extra window isn't padding. It's the part most guests remember later as the reason the day felt different from a rushed weekday.

At check-in, we'll walk you through the locker rooms, the co-ed relaxation lounge, the steam room, and the sauna. You'll change into a robe and slippers. Sip something warm. Breathe out. If it's your first time, our guide to preparing for your first visit covers what to wear under the robe and which amenities to try before your treatment.

Most people ask first about the treatment. That's the wrong first question. Ask instead about the pre-service ritual, because a warm, hydrated body responds to bodywork in a completely different way than a cold, tense one that just walked in from the parking lot.

What does the intake conversation actually cover?

Before any hands-on work begins, your therapist will spend a few minutes with you in the treatment room. This is where the service gets tailored.

Expect questions about:

  • Any injuries, surgeries, or areas that are currently sore or off-limits.
  • Pressure preference, from light and lymphatic to deep and firm.
  • Whether you're pregnant, on new medications, or managing a skin condition.
  • Scent sensitivities, because aromatherapy oils vary and not every nose wants lavender.
  • Your goal for the hour, whether that's stress relief, sleep, or working out a specific knot.
  • Music and conversation preference, including full silence if that's what you want.

A guest books a deep tissue massage sure her shoulders are the problem. The intake reveals she's been clenching her jaw for months and sleeping on her stomach. The plan shifts. Neck, jaw, and upper chest get more time than the traps she came in blaming. That's what a real intake is for.

For guests choosing between service types, our post on questions worth asking a specialist is a good primer.

How do different services compare on the day?

Not every treatment feels the same, and not every treatment fits every goal. Here's a quick side-by-side of common bookings at Relâche Spa.

ServiceTypical lengthBest forSkip it when
Swedish massage50-80 minFirst-timers, stress, sleepYou want deep muscle release
Deep tissue50-80 minChronic tension, athletesYou bruise easily or feel fragile
Custom facial50 minDullness, dryness, breakoutsYou had a peel this week
Body scrub + wrap80 minDry skin, full-body resetYou have sunburn or open cuts

Ask questions during the service. It won't ruin the mood. A quick "a little lighter on that shoulder" tells your therapist more than a survey ever will [1].

What should we do after the treatment ends?

Don't rush out. The 20 minutes after your service matter almost as much as the service itself. Drink water. Sit in the lounge. Let your nervous system finish what the treatment started.

You may feel slightly tender the next day, especially after deep work. That's normal and usually resolves in 24 to 48 hours [2]. Warm baths help. So does a walk.

If you loved your therapist, book your next appointment before you leave. Preferred providers fill up first, and our what-to-expect walkthrough covers rebooking rhythms that work for most guests.

FAQ

Do we need to tip on top of the service charge?

An automatic service charge is added to services at Relâche Spa. It's distributed to your provider, so no additional gratuity is expected. If a therapist went above and beyond, you're welcome to add more at checkout, but you shouldn't feel any pressure to.

Can we bring a friend to the lounge?

Access to the relaxation lounge, steam room, and sauna is included with your service and reserved for guests receiving treatments that day. Guests must be at least 18 years of age to use the steam room, sauna, and locker rooms. Plan companion visits by booking side-by-side services.

What if we're running late?

Call the spa as soon as you know. We'll do our best to preserve your service, but arrivals past the start time may result in a shortened treatment so the next guest isn't delayed. Cancellations within six hours of your appointment carry a $35 fee.

Should we eat before a massage?

Yes, but lightly. A heavy meal right before lying face-down is uncomfortable. A small snack an hour ahead, plus water, is ideal. Skip alcohol before your service. It dehydrates the tissue and dulls the benefits of the work you're about to receive.
